Trinity ‘A’ win Roger Rodrigo Trophy

In the 13th Lanka Lions old boys Tag Rugby series tournament Trinity ‘A’ beat St. Peter's 35-0 to win the cup for the fifth time in the series at Sharjah Wanders Rugby Club grounds.

Trinity ‘A’ side was led by 2011 Trinity College Centre three quarter Dilshan Kelaniyangoda. This rugby tournament is one of the most looked forward to events in the sporting calendar for Lankan expatriates resident in the UAE as old boys of top rugby playing schools battle for the plum. Wesley ‘A” bagged the plate championship.

The Tag sevens is played for the Roger Rodrigo challenge cup in honour of the former Sri Lanka and Gulf Rugby Stalwart.

The champion Trinity ‘A’ team comprised of Dilshan Kelaniyangoda, Anuka Boyagoda, Azarath Deen, Anojan Balasunderan and Saliya Kumara (all of whom played for the Trinity senior team), Adil Deen, Sugath Laxman, L. Ishanga, Hilmy Mohamed, Shaham Wadood and S. Stephen.

The champion Trinity ‘A’ side beat St. Benedict's 77-0, St. Joseph's 49-7, Zahira 21-5, Ananda 35-7. In the quarter-finals they received a walk over from their ‘B’ side. In the semis they beat Isipathana 14-7 and in the final they overcome St. Pater's 35-0.

Trinity ‘B’ also reached the quarters before giving a walk over to their ‘A” side. They beat St. Benedict's ‘B’ 14-7 in the plate semis and lost to Wesley ‘A’ 7-14 in the final.

Trinity ‘A’ skipper Dilshan Kelaniyangoda was adjudged the player of the tournament.
