Death of journalist Haripriya Gunasekara

The death occurred yesterday of Haripriya Gunasekara of No 208, Galwala Road, Dehiwala. He is a former Features Editor of the Janatha.

Gunasekara joined the Lankadeepa newspaper as a cartoonist in 1955, which was his first step in journalism. Later he joined the Dawasa newspaper continuing to be a cartoonist while making contributions to Lake House publications including Mihira, Tharuni, Nawayugaya, Sarasaviya and Budusarana, as an artist and photographer.

In 1977, he joined Subasetha editorial as a Deputy Editor and in 1989 he worked as the Features Editor for Janatha newspaper until he resigned in 1995.

Gunasekara graduated from Haywood Institute of Fine Arts, specialising in Art. He was a senior journalist, an astrologist and an artist who contributed to journalism over four decades

His son Kumudu Gunasekara is attached to the Daily News editorial. His remains lie at No 208, Galwala Road, Dehiwala.Funeral will take place on Sunday, December 10, at 2.00 p.m. at the Mount Lavinia cemetery.
