I pray for new constitution - Opposition Leader Sampanthan

Leader of the Opposition and the Tamil National Alliance (TNL) R. Sampanthan sending a Thai Pongal message says he prays for a new constitution without delay in the new year.

He said in his message that as a new year began, people have many expectations.

“In particular, the Tamil people’s long-standing aspiration for a lasting political solution to the national question remains unattained. During last year, meaningful steps were taken to formulate a new constitution to address this unresolved issue. “As a result of such steps, an Interim Report of the Steering Committee has been submitted to the Constitutional Assembly. The report contains matters of importance that merit consideration.

“My prayer is that a new constitution will be framed without any further delay in the new year which will uphold the right to dignity, self respect, and justice on the basis of equality amongst all citizens of Sri Lanka so as to ensure goodwill unity and genuine reconciliation within an undivided and indivisible Sri Lanka.

“My best wishes and prayers for a Thai Pongal filled with peace and prosperity,” Opposition Leader said.
