Indian arrested with dope pills worth Rs.6 mn

The Police Narcotics Bureau at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake, had arrested an Indian national on Thursday while he was attempting to smuggle in a stock of methamphetamine, a strong central nervous system stimulant, to the country.

The stock of methamphetamine has a market value of around six million.

He has been identified as a Tamil Nadu resident who was running a small shop in India.

He had arrived in Sri Lanka on Thursday aboard a Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL124 from Chennai around 09.45 p.m.

The Police Narcotics Bureau division in Katunayake told the Daily News that the suspect had concealed the 220 grams of Methamphetamine in a false bottom of his luggage.

The Police Narcotic Bureau stated that the stock of Methamphetamine was in the form of crystals and is suspected to have been brought to be distributed among leading night clubs in and around Colombo.

The Narcotics Bureau had obtained a detention order for seven days by producing the Indian national before the Minuwangoda Magistrate and further investigations are continuing into this incident.
