Udaya retains men’s crown for fourth consecutive time

Seasoned campaigner, Vidyarthian TT star Udaya Ranasinghe continued his dominance in the local table tennis arena when he clinched the men's singles national crown for the fifth consecutive year and became the men's Most Outstanding Player in the 71st National Table Tennis Championship 2017 concluded at the S. Thomas' Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavenia recently. Ishara Madurangi of Sri Lanka port Authority who went on to partner two titles (Women's Open doubles/ Mixed doubles) was awarded the women's Most Outstanding Player award.

Defending women's singles champion Erandi Warusawithana retained her title for the second consecutive year. The consolation final for men's singles third place was won by Isuru Anjana of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda while Nathasha Sandavinee of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo won the women's consolation final.

The apex national TT tourney saw 210 paddlers lining up for this year's competition in Open events of men's singles, men's doubles, women's singles, women's doubles, mixed doubles with Masters men's singles, Veteran men's singles, men's and women's under 21 singles events. Sri Lanka Rugby president Asanga Senevirathne was the chief guest at the award ceremony while STAG International stepped in as the equipment sponsor of the tournament.
