President signs gazette to set up Commission on SriLankan, Mihin

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday, signed a special Gazzette Notification to set up the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate corruption and fraud that have allegedly taken place at SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka.

The five-member commission includes Retired Supreme Court Judge Anil Goonaratne, Court of Appeal Judge Gamini Amarasekera, Retired High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe, Retired Deputy Auditor General Anthony Harold and National Accounting Standards Board Director General Wasantha Kapugama.

Addressing a rally at Hettimulla in Kurunegala, the President said that the commission will commence activities from next week with the gazette notification being issued last night. The President added that he will put in place a mechanism to end corruption and fraud. “I will take legal action against those who were involved in fraud and corruption irrespective of their affiliation to political parties,” he said.

He said that new laws will be brought in to prevent corruptions and financial malpractices. “No government took action against those who were involved in corruption.

But I was able to divulge those who were involved in corruption,” he said.
