Customers and workers of a private petrol shed at Kandasurindugama road in Kataragama engaged in an heated argument yesterday when the customers alleged that the fuel they received from the petrol shed had been mixed with kerosene oil.

Residents complained that many motorcycles had mechanical failures due to this reason and that the fuel obtained from the shed was discovered to be mixed with kerosene upon testing. Many three wheelers and motorcycles emanated kerosene smell after the petrol shed pumped fuel to them.

The people who purchased petrol from the shed lodged complaints at the Kataragama Police station regarding the matter and the workers have subsequently stopped pumping petrol.

The workers at the petrol shed said they were unable to comment on the issue. They said that the petrol released to the public was provided by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) through petrol bowsers.
