A team of police officers of the Galewela Police raided an illicit brewery in the Galewela area and arrested a person allegedly running the operation. They also seized 4.5 litres of moonshine, 180 litres of goda and distilling apparatus.
Police said that the suspect, A.H.M. Cyril, was a leading figure in the illicit brewing business and has been convicted on five previous occasions by the court for similar offences.
The suspect was produced before Dambulla District Magistrate I.M.S.B. Illangasingha, who imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 on the accused when he pleaded guilty to the offence.
