GL asks Ranil to leave Temple Trees

Although Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected four times as a Prime Minister, he has failed to fully complete even one term of office succesfully, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna President Professor G. L. Peiris said.

He was speaking at a press brief at the SLPP Headquarters in Battalamulla yesterday.

Professor Peiris said Wickremesinghe was ripped off of his post before the completion of three years by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in 2001.

He also said many foreign countries including the UK are watching the developments in the country and they are to take important decisions in the near future.

Thus, he urged Wickremesinghe to leave Temple Trees and hand it over to the new Prime Minister.

MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has received the support of 105 MPs in Parliament and following the SLPP rally, this number will increase to 110. Ranil Wickremesinghe is better off leaving than trying to find 113 to support him.

The majority in the country stand with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Abeygunawardena said Ranil Wickremesinghe will not be able to get away with the Treasury bond issue.

He also said when Parliament is convened, they will show the majority support they have. Attorney-at-law Sagala Kariyawasam also spoke.
