Evidence points to victim feigning innocence

Police recently discovered that an alleged robbery of Rs.400,000 from a businessman had actually been a con.

The alleged victim, a businessman, had lodged a complaint with Dambulla police, saying that a thief had mugged him at knife-point. He had then been admitted to a hospital as he had sustained injuries to his hands and neck. However, the hospital medical officer's report stated that the injuries were self-inflicted.

CCTV footage at the Dambulla Economic Centre, where the mugging was alleged to have taken place, also corroborated with the evidence.

Police said that the Dambulla Magistrate would be informed on the new developments in the case. Investigations are continuing.
