Held for phone threats

A man who had threatened another over the telephone and demanded Rs. 3 million as ransom was arrested by the Peliyagoda Crimes Division Police on Sunday in Ihala Biyanwila, Kadawatha, according to Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara.

The suspect had been harassing the victim who resides in Kiribathgoda with threatening phone calls and demand of a ransom.

He had threatened to harm the victim and his family if the ransom was not paid. However, the Peliyagoda Police had been notified of the threatening phone calls and they had commenced the investigation leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect is a 30-year-old named Terrence Tyrone Fernando residing in Ihala Biyanwila, Kadawatha. He was produced before the Mahara Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Kiribathgoda Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
