Former DIG Nalaka de Silva further remanded

The CID yesterday, informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that they have commenced an investigation into the conduct of Anti-Corruption Movement Operations Director Namal Kumara.

The CID filing a further report told court that Namal Kumara has been identified as an Army deserter in 2010.

The CID further told that Namal Kumara had submitted a forged educational certificate (GCE A/L) to the Air Force and the Army. The CID said they commenced a separate inquiry regarding this matter. The CID further stated that they received Namal Kumara’s authentic educational certificates from the Examinations Department.

Meanwhile, Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake yesterday, further remanded former Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) Director, DIG Nalaka de Silva and Indian National Mersily Thomas till January 16. Nalaka de Silva has been allegedly accused of plotting to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and SSP Prasanna Alwis.

Filing a further report before court, the CID pleaded to issue an order to handover three compact discs which contained the voice recordings from the mobile phone of Anti-Corruption Movement Operations Director Namal Kumara to the Government Analyst’s Department.

The CID also stated that they wanted to check whether those voice recordings match the earlier taken voice samples of Nalaka Silva and Namal Kumara.

The CID further told the court that Data Expert Company in Hong Kong had recovered 427 voice recordings, 37 defunct voice recordings, 4,331 photos, 802 defunct photos, 26 videos,134 audio files and 74 ringing tones. On the last occasion, the Magistrate stated that there is no jurisdiction power to the Magistrate’s courts to grant bail on the remanded suspect. The Magistrate ordered the remand of Nalaka Silva until investigations are concluded.

The Magistrate ordered the CID to expedite the investigations into the Indian national.

The CID today informed Colombo Fort Magistrate’s court that they have commenced an investigation into the conduct of Director (Operations) of Anti-Corruption Movement Namal Kumara.

Filing a further report in Court, the CID further stated that Namal Kumara has been identified as an Army deserter in 2010. The CID further told that Namal Kumara had submitted a forged educational certificate (GCE A/L) to the Air force and Sri Lanka Army. The CID they commenced a separate inquiry regarding this matter. The CID further stated that they received Namal Kumara’s correct educational certificates from the Examinations Department.
