Drug case suspect commits suicide

A youth who had been arrested by the Katugastota Police for possessing drugs, had committed suicide on Monday.

The 26-year-old youth had been arrested and detained under police custody over the possession of cannabis, last Sunday.

The suspect, who was arrested in Ambatenna, was being held in a holding cell prior to being produced in court, where he had hung himself using his t-shirt. The suspect has been identified as Nuwan Buddika Kularatne, a resident of Ambatenna, Hapugoda.

The body of the deceased is currently lying at the Kandy Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

A special investigation has been launched under the directives of the Kandy Division SSP.
