Man dies of trap gun shot

A 28-year-old man succumbed to his gunshot injuries after he was admitted to Dambulla Weera Denzil Kobbekaduwa Base Hospital on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Danushka Jayawardhana of Murungahitikanda close to Madatugama town. He was a father of two children. At the time of his death, he had accidently trampled a wire of a trap gun which had been set up when he was searching for his cattle in a nearby thicket.

He had entangled himself with the trap gun while he was on his way to search his cattle in the thicket, Kekirawa Police said.

The villagers said poachers frequently set up trap guns in the thicket to kill wild animals.

Kekirawa Police are conducting further investigations.
