PC gets eight years RI for bribery

A Police Constable attached to Girandurukotte Police station was yesterday sentenced to 8-years Rigorous Imprisonment by the Colombo High Court after he was found guilty of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs.3,000 from a motorist in 2008.

High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga further ordered the accused Police Constable Sarath Nanda Siri to pay a fine of Rs.20,000 on four counts.

The Director General of Investigate Allegations Against Bribery and Corruption had filed indictments against the Police Constable for soliciting and accepting the bribe from a motorist, not to institute legal action over a traffic offence on or around May 22, 2014.
