The Education Ministry has taken measures to strengthen the policy of ‘Nearest School is the Best School (NSBS)’ concept, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
The Minister was speaking at the opening of a new centre for the NSBS programme recently at the Education Ministry.
The NSBS policy was initiated under a concept of the Education Minister in 2016.
All students are given equal and the best opportunities for education by the NSBS concept through the closest school from students’ homes. Under the NSBS concept, which was planned to end in 2020, moves will be taken to develop 9,064 schools countrywide. Of them 282 are national schools, while the balance, 8,782 are provincial schools. Besides, steps will be taken to improve the facilities of all teacher training institutions and national education institutes.
