A 38-year-old mother of one succumbed to her injuries after she met with an accident in Kottamgoda in Padukka on Wednesday night.
According to Moragahahena Police, the accident took place on Padukka - Horana Road when the woman was travelling on a motorcycle with her child and husband.
The motorcycle was run over by a crane. According to the police, the suspect crane driver had knocked down another motorcycle a little earlier.
The woman who received serious injuries was immediately admitted to the Government Hospital in Padukka. The victim was identified as Samanthi Swarnalatha Kumari Weerasooriya, a resident of Millawa, Samanwila in Athamalahena.
Another woman and her 10-year-old child, who were knocked by the same crane earlier, were also admitted to the National Hospital and the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila. The woman is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital.
The suspect had fled soon after the accident but surrendered at Moragahahena Police. The suspect was identified as a 37-year-old businessman residing in the same area. He was to be produced before the Horana Magistrate’s Court.
Police are investigating.
