DJ artiste held for attack at nightclub

A DJ artiste, who allegedly attacked security guards and guests at a nightclub and fled, was taken into custody by Kurunduwatte Police on Wednesday.

According to the police, the incident occurred at a nightclub in Maitland Place, Colombo 7.

At the preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the incident took place after the DJ artiste had an argument with one of the guests. At that time, the guest had asked the DJ to play a Sinhalese song instead of English songs and the DJ had refused.

Fisticuffs began after the argument. It was also reported that the DJ had attacked some of the security guards who attempted to stop the fight. Police said the suspect had broken a glass bottle and attacked a security guard with the sharp edge. The guard was seriously injured and admitted to the National Hospital by the nightclub management. According to them, three other guests involved in the fight had received minor injuries.

The victim security guard was identified as a 40-year-individual a resident of Narahenpita. The suspect was identified as a 37-year-old resident of Rajagiriya.

The suspect was to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court by Kurunduwatte Police.

Investigations are continuing.
