Chamindu Kavinda bowls Aluthgama Vidyalaya to victory

A very fine performance of an unbeaten 160 runs and a match bag of 10 for 40 runs (6/16 and 5/24) by Chamindu Kavinda of Aluthgama Vidyalaya helped them to beat Medankara Vidyalaya Horana by a massive 273 runs in their inter-school under 13 division three second round tournament cricket match worked off at Aluthgama.

Chamindu had ten hits to the rope and fourteen over and occupied the crease for 75 minutes and faced 57 balls and also he was associated in a second wicket partnership of 152 runs with Akash Kalhara who contributed 52 runs. Chamindu who bowls right arm fast medium and bats right hand has scored 440 runs in five innings and unbeaten once at an average of 110.0 and has claimed 35 wickets with three ten wicket hauls.

Batting first homesters scored 116 runs and R A Dilshan bagged 4 for 43 and in reply visitors collapsed for 39 runs and Akash Kalhara too claimed 4 for 19. In their second essay Aluthgama Vidyalaya declared at 251 for 2 giving a target of 329 runs for an outright win and Horana lads were shot out for a paltry 55 runs. Aluthgama Vidyalaya is coached by a former Aluthgama Vidyalaya Cricketer Aravinda Amerasekera while the Principal Mrs Saroja Padmini and the Master in Charge are extending all the encouragement to keep this noble game alive at their school.
