Sri Lanka’s Kamil Mishara and Australia’s Sam Fanning hit centuries in the first under 19 ODI, but it was Australia who emerged winners by seven wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series at the P Sara Oval yesterday.

Buoyed by Mishara’s century – 123 off 157 balls (3 sixes, 12 fours) Sri Lanka ran up a competitive total of 262-6 with skipper Nipun Dananjaya chipping in with 47 off 44 balls and Navod Paranavithana scoring a patient 45 off 78 balls.

However Australia spearheaded by a fine century from Sam Fanning – 108 off 94 ball (2 sixes, 14 fours) who put on an opening stand of 114 with Corey Hunter (47) reached their target with 13 balls to spare.

Oliver Davis (50 n.o.) and Will Sutherland (25 n.o.) took Australia home in an unbroken stand of 68.

The second U19 ODI will be played at the same venue tomorrow (Saturday).
