A special investigation had been commenced into the death of two newborn infants at the Chilaw Hospital, Hospital’s Director Dr. Lalith Poddalgoda said.
These deaths were reported on January 2, but, the hospital had not taken steps to hand over the bodies to the relatives even by yesterday (4).
When questioned, Dr. Poddalgoda said the bodies were to be handed over to relatives after the post-mortem yesterday.
The mothers of the infants were H. Priya from Udappuwa and Darshika Pathirana from Ilippadeniya.
During last month too, the death of three infants at birth and a mother during delivery was reported from the Chilaw Hospital and Dr. Poddalgoda said those deaths were unusual.
Accordingly, the Health Ministry had commenced investigations into these deaths.
