Havelocks in superb 50-32 win over Army

Havelock Sports Club scored a runaway 50 points (8 tries, 5 conversions) to 32 ( 5 tries, 2 conversions, 1 penalty) win over a fighting Army Sports Club outfit in their Dialog ‘A’ Division inter club league rugby tournament second round match played at Air Force grounds in Ratmalana yesterday. The winners led 31 points to 13 at half time.

After being contained in the first half of the game the Army three quarters came up with a sterling display in the second half of the match to outplay their counterparts in midfield.

Army’s speedy centre three quarter Danushka Thalwatte was a source of inspiration to his team-mates with his spectacular runs down the ground and capped a fine performance in the match by scoring three tries, but his single handed effort could not bring Army Sports club the much needed victory in the end.

For the winning Havelock Sports Club team the Eight tries were scored by scrum half Mithun Hapugoda (two), centre three quarter Iranga Ariyapala (one), winger Sandun Herath (one), flanker Shenal Deelaka (one), captain cum fly half Niroshan Fernando (one), hooker Azmeer Fajudeen (one) and full back Reeza Mubarak (one), while the five conversions were fired across by Mubarak.

For the losing Army Sports Club the five tries were scored by centre Danushka Thalwatte (three), Prop forward Ashoka Jayalal (one) and wing three quarter Sudaraka Dikkumbura (one) with full back Gayan Salinda slotted in the two conversions and the solitary penalty.
