The necessary assistance will be provided to agricultural and livestock farmers for the losses sutained by them due to the recent floods in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts,Agriculture Minister P.Harrison said.
Participating in an inspection tour of the affected areas, Minister P.Harrison met the farmers and promised to compensate them for their losses. Thousands of acres of paddy fields harvested in those districts were destroyed by the flood waters and the Agrarian Insurance Board has decided to provide Rs.40,000 per acre as compensation to the farmers to re-cultivate their paddylands.
The Ministry will also provide the affected farmers a 50 percent subsidy for seed paddy together with the fertiliser subsidy. Ministry Secretary K.D.S. Ruwanchandra and some other officials also participated.
