‘Postal service to be expanded’

The postal service will be expanded and uplifted in the near future with the assistance of the state and private sector institutions, Postal services and Muslim Religious Affairs Minister M.H.A.Haleem said.

Minister Haleem said the network of post offices throughout the country renders yeomen service. He was addressing a ceremony in Colombo last evening to launch paying third party insurances of Fairfirst Insurance Company for vehicles through post offices.

Minister Haleem pointed out that discussions are underway with another private company to commence another public service. The Postal Department serves the public and is not a profit making business.

Deputy Post Master General Rajitha Ranasinghe also spoke.
