Executive Presidency speeds up development-Minister Daya Gamage

Labor Trade Union Relations and Social Empowerment Minister Daya Gamage yesterday told officials and workers at his ministry that it must not be forgotten that via utilization of the powers of the Executive Presidency, they were able to make several landmark decisions for the country’s progress and wellbeing.

“I personally believe that the system of Executive Presidency can accelerate development in the country,” said Gamage to the gathering. He was speaking at ceremony at his ministry.

“The Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka had been amended as many as nineteen times. A country needs such changes from time to time. Yet again,” he said, “The changes must be for the people,” he said.

“The country should have a Constitution that gives Buddhism the foremost place, that preserves the unitary state of the land and that treats every ethnic community equally,” he said.
