Ambassador Jaffeer affirmed Sri Lanka’s desire to strengthen relations with Brazil under the new Brazilian administration of President Jair Bolsonaro and expressed his confidence that the new Minister’s term of office would contribute to reaching further heights in the promotion of relations between the two countries, especially in the areas of trade, technical cooperation and investment.

At his inaugural speech, the Minister promised to regain the role of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry as an important institution of the Federal Government of Brazil by prioritizing Brazilian people’s interest at the centre of Brazil’s Foreign policy.

Minister Fraga Araújo, who was appointed the Minister of Foreign Affairs by Brazil’s new President Jair Bolsonaro on January 1, took charge of his office at the Foreign Ministry on January 2, in the presence of a large number of Ambassadors, high level dignitaries and Foreign Ministry officials.

On his appointment, Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana also sent a formal congratulatory message to Minister Fraga Araújo.
