The seventh annual Katina ceremony of the Heathrow Athula Dassana International Buddhist Temple was held on November 10 and 11, last year.
The Vas Aradhana was performed on the Esala Full Moon Poya Day, July 27 in 2018, by Davinde Rathnayaka, Asanka Hemachandra, Warunika Sananayaka, Thilak Dharmawardene together with their families and other devotees at the Heathrow Athula Dassana International Buddhist Temple.
The Katina ceremony commenced with the Atavisi Buddha Puja, conducted by the Colombo District Chief Sangha Nayaka, Thripitakacharys, VichitraBhanaka, SaddarmaVagishwara Most Ven. Borelle Athula Thera.
The Katina Robe was offered to Most Ven. Borelle Athula Thera and Ven. Wanduraba Kassapa Thera who explained the significance of offering a Katina Robe at 6 am on November 11.
The presence of Buddhist monks representing the Thames Buddhist Temple, Enfield Abhayaramaya Temple, Letchworth Buddhist Temple, Cambridge Buddhist Temple, Ven. Kashyapa Thera and from Sri Lanka; Ven. Borelle Athula Nayaka Thera, Ven. Homagama Kondangnna Thera and Ven. Kavindu Rathana Thera made the event very special.
The Katina Chivara Puja (Katina Robe offering Ceremony) took place at 2 pm with the Kathina Robe being brought in a procession to the ceremony hall. Once the offering was made to the Sangha, they unanimously decided to nominate Ven. Wanduraba Kassapa Thero as the most suitable to receive the Katina Chivara.
Over 500 devotees took part in the Katina Ceremony.
