Generosity is an important trait of leadership. Training in generosity gives an immense boost to leadership, Ven. Kiribathkumbure Seevali Chief Sanghanayake Thera of Denuwara said.

"Generosity is a virtue which has evaded a majority of people today. Nothing beneficial could be expected from a society driven by selfishness," he said.

The Thera was addressing the gathering at a social responsibility programme orgnaised by the SLPP Yatinuwara electorate organiser D. U. Senarath at the Pilimathalawa, Urapola Sri Abhayaraja Pirivena hall, recently. A stock of dry food rations valued at Rs. 3,000 was distributed among 50 families at the ceremony.

Ven. Seevali Thera said the Buddha and all other religious leaders had espoused compassion as a measure that leads to helping those in need before they come in search of assistance.

SLPP Yatinuwara Organiser Senarath said he never considered political or other differences in helping the needy. Ven.
