A suspect who had stolen number of valuble smartphones of train commuters, was nabbed during a special operation by a team from the Special Crime Investigation Unit of the Mirihana Police Station.
According to the police media unit, the suspect was identified as an Island Reconvicted Criminal (IRC) by the name of "Manawaduge Krishantha" alias "Kira".
According to investigations, it was learnt that the suspect had stolen 50 smart phones from passengers travelling by train. The police also located 45 smartphones which had been sold by the suspect to individuals in Dehiwala.
The suspect was handed to the Crime Branch of the Mount lavinia Police.
The suspect will be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate today.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Mount Lavinia Police.
