China to help set up free trade zone for rubber products

A Chinese delegation led by Hainan Province Vice-governor Shen Danyang called on Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake at his Ministry yesterday and discussed the free trade zone for rubber to be set up in Sri Lanka by the Central Government of China and the State Council of the People's Republic of China.

The Ministry will increase export of value added rubber products, strengthen the economy of rubber plantation owners, generate new employment opportunities and import rubber products by expanding rubber cultivation and setting up a rubber industrial zone,

Minister Dissanayake pledged to implement the project soon after receiving the cabinet approval.

Minister Dissanayake said he will maintain close relationships with China.

“I will use the bilateral relationships between China and Sri Lanka for not only to develop plantation sector but also to develop the country,” Minister Dissanayake said.

Vice-governor Shen Danyang said the Chinese government will invest further in Sri Lanka.
