Four found guilty of stealing gun

Four persons including two Army soldiers who pleaded guilty to stealing a gun and keeping it in their possession, were fined Rs. 4,000 and sentenced to eight months for each count, suspended for 10 years, by Dambulla District Magistrate I.M.S.B. Illangasingha.

According to police, these suspects had stolen the gun from a resident of Nilannoruwa last February.

The second accused was also convicted for misleading the court by giving a false statement and was sentenced to one month’s rigorous imprisonment by the magistrate.

The third and fourth accused were Army soldiers.

The accused were D.G. Karunarathna, N.G. Rathnasiri Bandara, D.G. Jayarathna and D.G. Nimal Wijerathna, residents of Nilannoruwa.

Sergeant Rajaratne of Galwewela Police led the evidence.
