Sigiriya Wildlife officers recently discovered the carcass of an elephant that had been electrocuted behind a house in Mahasengama, Sigiriya.
The carcass was found when officials had launched an investigation upon receiving information that an elephant had been killed. Wildlife officers said that the elephant had died after biting an electric wire connecting light bulbs the house owner had set up to repel wild elephants from his cultivation.
The house owner was arrested. Investigations are continuing.
