SL, Australia discuss trade, investment

New priority areas have been identified for greater cooperation between Sri Lanka and Australia under the Trade and Investment Framework Arrangement (TIFA).

The second Review Meeting of the TIFA between Sri Lanka and Australia was held on Wednesday at the Development Strategies and International Trade Ministry.

Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama and Australian High Commissioner Bryce Hutchesson took part in the meeting.

The TIFA between Sri Lanka and Australia was signed in November 2017 to expand trade and investment between two countries.

At this meeting, measures have been discussed to expedite the implementation of identified priority actions. Minister Samarawickrama and High Commissioner Hutchesson assured their commitments to take action to enhance trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The discussions revolved on economic reform and cooperation, free trade and regional trade agreement agendas, market access and investment facilitation and sector-specific opportunities for investment in both countries.
