CMC member bailed, another remanded

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Municipal Councillor Kulatissa Geeganage who was remanded was granted bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne yesterday.

He was remanded in connection with the unruly behaviour at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) premises in Dematagoda last year.

The SLPP Municipal Councillor Kulatissa Geeganage was released on a cash bail Rs.10,000 and two sureties of Rs.200,000 each.The Magistrate also ordered the suspect to appear before the CCD every Sunday between 9.00 and 12.00.

Geeganage’s cousin son Gayan Kulathissa, who was arrested and produced before court over this incident was ordered to be remanded till January 25.

He was accused of forcibly entering the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation premises and behaving in an unruly manner creating unrest. On a previous occasion, the CCD told court that Kulathissa’s action was the main cause of the clash at the CPC premises on October 28.

The Magistrate warned Kulatissa to adhere with bail conditions and warned that bail could be cancelled if he repeated such an offence.

MP Arjuna Ranatunga’s Ministerial Security Division (MSD) officer, who allegedly fired at a mob at the Petroleum Resources Development Ministry on October 28 was further remanded till January 25 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
