Four surrender in Beruwala heroin case

Four persons involved in the Beruwala heroin case were remanded till January 25.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne ordered the remanding of Sudath Priyadarshana, Jagath Rathnayake, Surendra Lakshan Silva and Maddumalage Maithripala who surrendered themselves before court yesterday.

On a previous occasion, Attorney Sanjaya Gamage appearing on behalf of the suspects had informed court of their willingness to surrender themselves before the court.

The Magistrate ordered the Officer-in-Charge of Police Narcotics Bureau to record statements from the suspects.

The Police Narcotics Bureau detected over 231 kgs of heroin parceled into 214 packets and hidden inside large sugar bags, in the possession of the arrested suspects. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for January 25.
