Live fish nabbed

A Sri Lankan passenger from Singapore was apprehended by Katunayake Airport Customs with 1,022 live fishes worth Rs. 611,133 around 2.00 am on Sunday.

The suspect, a resident of Ambalangoda had arrived by flight SQ 468 from Singapore.

The suspect was arrested for not having the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources animal quarantine certificate for the fishes.The stock of live fishes has been referred to Animal Quarantine Station at Bandaranaike International Airport for inspection.

Arrangements have been made to re-export the live fish back to Singapore, the Customs Media Division said.
