The Minnoly Sports Club ‘A’ Team, Vinayagapura emerged champions of the Thangarasa Sothimalar Memorial Trophy Soccer Tournament organized by the Thirukkovil Minnoly Sports Club when they beat the defending champions Minnoli Sports Club-B Team, Vinayagapura by 2:0 in the finals played at the Vinayagapuram Minnoly play grounds recently.
Vinayagapuram Minnoly Sports Club President T.Surenthiran organized the tournament to mark the completion of 40 years of the club. Altogether 35 prominent football teams from the Ampara district took part.
Champions Minnoly Sports Club-A Team were awarded Rs.15,000 cash prize and trophy and the runner up Minnoli Sports Club-B Team was awarded Rs.10,000 and a trophy. Trophies and cash prize for winning teams were distributed by the chief guest and other guests.
TNA Parliamentarian Kavinthiran Kodiswaran participated as the chief guest at the award ceremony.
Thirukkovil Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman E.V.Kamalarajan, Thirukkovil Zonal Education Director Y.Jeyachandren, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) Management Faculty Dean S.Gunapalan, Batticaloa Technical College Director S.Jeyapalan, Vice-Chairman S.Wickneswaran, Pradeshiya Sabha Members, Departmental Heads, Sports Clubs officials and many others were present at the event.
