Bangladeshi woman helped to take Ratmalana house - Police

One of the female suspects among the five drug racketeers arrested in Bangladesh had assisted the Bangladeshi woman arrested in Colombo to obtain the house she had rented in Ratmalana for her drug operations.

Police had arrested the Bangladeshi woman on December 15, with a kg of heroin and subsequently located the house she was on rent in the Ratmalana area and found 31 kilograms of heroin hidden there. SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that this house had been rented in the name of the female suspect arrested in Bangladesh.

He said a team of Narcotics Bureau officers are scheduled to visit Bangladesh to question the five suspects arrested by the Bangladesh Drug Prevention Squad. He said the required approvals were currently being carried out and once all formalities are completed, the team would leave for Dhaka. On December 31, Sri Lankan Police seized 272 kilograms of heroin and five kilograms of cocaine during a special operation at a housing complex in Templer's Road in Mount Lavinia. The haul is worth over Rs. 2.4 billion.

The Bangladeshi Police had arrested five Bangladeshi nationals including three women and two men accused of being involved in “an international drug racket” last Monday.
