Excise Department receives Rs.203 mn through fines

The Excise Department has arrested about 49,305 offenders and acquired a sum of Rs.203 million through fines, recently.

It was reported that of the offenders, 5,114 were women. Illegal items worth Rs.460 million were also seized from the suspects. It has been planned to hold about 2,800 education programmes focused on the public (especially schoolchildren), in the Kurunegala district during next three months, under the guidance of the Presidential Secretariat, Kurunegala District Secretariat W.E. Jayathilake said while speaking at a meeting of school heads in Kurunegala, which was held yesterday at the Bingiriya Youth Training Centre.
