Ten-year jail term for child molester

A 37-year-old married man who molested a six-year-old schoolgirl was sentenced to a ten-year jail term and fined Rs.10,000 by Kurunegala High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundara, last Friday.

In addition, the accused was ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.100,000 to the victim. The incident had taken place on the September 8, 2009, at the victim’s house. The girl is a resident of Gokarella in Kurunegala.

The suspect is a resident of Melsiripura, Kurungala. The wife of the suspect, as well as the mother of the victim, were employed abroad.
