A female suspect who had cheated people out of Rs.2.95 million after promising foreign employment, was arrested by Panadura Police on Wednesday evening.
The woman has been identified as a 69-year-old resident of Pokunuwita, Horana. She had promised over 40 people jobs in New Zealand. Police also seized over 40 passports belonging to the people she had conned. The arrest was made while the suspect was travelling on the Meemana Premathilaka Road in Horana.
She was to be produced at the Horana Magistrate’s Court, yesterday. Investigations are continuing.
