CH stun table leaders Havies 40-33

Gallant CH and FC outfit scored a stunning 40 points (5 tries, 3 conversions, 3 penalties) to 33 (5 tries, 4 conversions) win over table leaders Havelock Sports Club team in their Dialog ‘A’ Division inter club league rugby tournament second round match played at race Course international grounds in Colombo yesterday.

Havies led 26 points to 22 at half time.

After being contained in the first half of the game the CH forwards rallied around with their speedy three quarters led by inspirational captain and fly half Rohitha “Chichi” Rajapaksa and came up with a sterling display in the second half of the match to out play their fame counterparts in the lose as well as in the centre field.

Nippy Sri Lanka national sevens scrum half cum play maker Sudam Sooriarachchi was a source of inspiration to his entire team-mates with his spectacular runs down the ground and capped a fine performance in the match by scoring two brilliant tries to go along with his tactical chip kicks from the base of the scrums, rucks and mauls.

For the winning CH and FC team the five tries were scored by Scrum half Sudam Sooriarachchi (two), centre Hirantha Perera (one), Australian centre Adam Gauder (one) and full back Samuel Maduwantha (one), while the three conversions and the three penalties were fired across by reliable place kicker Maduwantha.

Losing Havelock Sports Clubs five tries were scored by prop forward Dushmantha Priyadarshana (one), hooker Ashmeer Fajudeen (one), flanker Shawqat Lahir (one), scrum half Mithun Hapugoda (one) and wing three quartr Chamara Dabare (one) with full back Reeza Mubarak slotted in the four conversions.

New Zealand referee Lawrece Willkinson refereed.

Navy beat Air Force 18-17

In another match Navy sports club scored a close 18 points to 17 win over Air Force Sports Club team in their Dialog ‘A’ Division inter club league rugby tournament second round match played at Navy grounds in Welisara yesterday.

Air Force led 6 points to 5 at half time.
