Infrastructure development projects expedited in East

State Education Minister Vijeyakala Maheswaran expedited infrastructure development projects in the Kaluthavali village in Batticaloa, recently.

Under this programme, a three-storeyed classroom building and a stadium is expected to be set up at the Kaluthavalai National School, at a cost of Rs.75 million, which would be funded by the Ministry of Education.

In addition, a new carpet road, constructed at a cost of Rs.2 million, was inaugurated by the state minister, recently. Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister Maheswaran said that at present, there was no fear amongst the public that they would be kidnapped by white vans. She said that people could travel to any part of the country without fear.

The state minister added that private and government lands which were under the control of the army, have been released for the benefit of the people.

Despite the prolonged war, there was allegation that development activities had not been implemented in the Northern and Eastern provinces, she said.

The government led by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, had undertaken numerous development works in the country, she said, adding that no racial or religious partiality was shown.

“The services of voluntary teachers who rendered yeoman services without any income in Northern and Eastern provinces are highly appreciated,” State Minister Maheswaran said. These teachers would be given permanent appointment when approval has been obtained, she added.

Batticaloa Parliamentarian S. Srineghan was also present at the event.
