PCoI Chairman warns SriLankan Airlines Company Secretary to give evidence

The Chairman of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into the Malpractices at SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka Private Limited yesterday strongly warned the Company Secretary of SriLankan Airlines to comply with the directions of the PCoI in giving evidence before the Commission.

The Chairman, Retired Supreme Court Judge Anil Gooneratne said, “This is a Commission with vested powers. So you have to comply with the directions given by the Commission”.

He also emphasised that SriLankan Airlines had not cooperated with the PCoI proceedings on several issues.

The Company Secretary, Darlene Thirukkumar had allegedly failed to present certain documents requested by the Commission relating to the cancellation of the A-350 aircraft agreement during her testimony yesterday.

It was also seen that the witness, Thirukkumar had not prepared her affidavit for yesterday’s testimony in a proper manner and there were some shortcomings which alleged hindered the Commission’s proceedings.

However, Chairman Gooneratne asked Senior State Counsel Fazly Razik, who was leading evidence as to why he doesn’t sort out those matters before the Secretary to the Commission prior to the Commission proceedings.
