MP Bandula decries privatisation of education

President Maithripala Sirisena should be concerned about the government’s efforts to privatise education, Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena said.

Speaking at a press conference of the Economic Research unit at Vajirasrama Buddist Centre in Punchi Borella, Colombo, yesterday, he said that the 4.4 million children receive free education and less than 200,000 study in private schools.

Gunawardena said the government has approved a Cabinet paper to legalise private education which will end free education. The government is misleading the President.

He also said the Education Minister has been passed a Cabinet paper to increase government-approved private schools from 40 to 400.
