Dubai consulate rejects plea to intervene for Amal, son’s release

Officials at the Sri Lankan Consulate in Dubai have rejected a request by Singer Amal Perera and his son Nadimal Perera’s lawyers to intervene in getting the duo released.

Consulate officials had pointed out that there were a large number of Sri Lankans who have been sentenced and in prison for various offences in the emirates but the mission had not taken any measures to intervene in their cases.

The officials had pointed out that if they appear on behalf of the two individuals when a probe is ongoing, on it would be unfair to the remaining Lankan nationals who are facing charges in Dubai.

Although Dubai Police has said that blood tests of Nadimal Perera had proven that he had not consumed any illicit drugs, he is yet to be released.

Dubai police is said to be continuing their investigations following the arrest of underworld leader Makandure Madush and several others on drug charges.
