The Galle Police Anti-Corruption Unit arrested four people engaged in cattle theft for a long period using luxury vehicles with altered number plates.
Police seized two cows, two vans, and a cab during the raid. Three suspects and two vehicles were taken into custody in Dangedara, while the other suspect and vehicle were taken into custody in Heenpendela.
Investigations revealed that the group had stolen cattle from areas such as Yakkalamulla, Akuressa, Baddegama, and Elpitiya before transporting them to slaughterhouses.
Police said two suspects were residents of Mee-Ella and Colombo, while the other two were residents of Dangedara.
Police said that some of the suspects had been accused of cattle theft before as well. An arrest warrant had also been issued recently for one of them as well.
The suspects were to be produced at courts, yesterday.
