Royal under-13 Div.I cricket champs

Royal College, Colombo emerged as the All Island under 13 Division One Cricket Champions by beating St. Anthoney's College, Kandy on points when the two teams battled it out in the Singer Trophy final at Maliyadeva College Grounds, Kurunegla recently. The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association for the Singer Trophy.

Altogether 370 schools participated in this tournament and through out Royalists participated in fifteen matches and they were unbeaten in all outings and they clinched this trophy after a span of 33 years.

They were captained by Nethwin Darmarathne who claimed the highest number of wickets and his deputy was Sehath Perera and Ovina Ambanpola is the highest run getter with 644 runs.

Winning the toss and elected to bat Royalists batted trough out the day and at stumps they were 158 for 4 with Buda Cumaratunga making the top score of 54 runs and Kevan Panapitiya too contributed 49 runs. Rashan Peiris in the head coach and Nisansala Mendis, Chenula Fernando, Prageeth Fernando and Lahiru Ferdinando were the other coaches. The encouragement and guidance received by the Principal B. A. Abeyrathne, B. M. S. Dissanayake (MIC/Under 13), M. A. M. Riyaz (SGM) and Aruna Prashantha Ramanayake (MIC Cricket) carried long way for their success.
