Kalinga Indatissa elected Bar Association President

President's Counsel Kalinga Indatissa has been elected as the 25th President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) for the year 2019-2020 after securing a clear majority over his rival candidate Mahinda Lokuge.

According to official results, President's Counsel Kalinga Indatissa had polled 4,702 votes while his rival candidate Mahinda Lokuge has polled 1,346 votes.

Kalinga Indatissa has been declared the winner with a majority of 3,356 votes.

Meanwhile, Kaushalya Nawaratne has been elected as the BASL Secretary after obtaining 5,061 votes. Saman Welianga who contested for the Secretary post also obtained 898 votes.

Kalinga Indatissa PC won the Colombo election centre after obtaining 2,394 votes.

His rival candidate Mahinda Lokuge has polled 556 votes from Colombo Election Centre.

The election was commenced yesterday morning at 81 election centres island wide. Around 15,806 attorneys were eligible to cast their votes.

Solicitor General Dappula de Livera was functioned as the returning officer for the year 2019-2020 election.
