Drinking water for 1,000 villages

Praja Jala Abhimanee, the programme to supply safe drinking water to 1,000 villages, will commence today (March 1).

This programme to be launched by the National Community Water Supply Department in 25 villages representing the 25 districts, is the brainchild of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Minister Rauff Hakeem.

This programme will be implemented across the country under the supervision of State Minister Lucky Jayawardena, with the objective of providing safe drinking water to villages where pipe-borne water cannot be provided.

This project will be completed in a year at a cost of Rs. 10,000 million and will provide benefits to 500,000 people.

The National Community Water Supply Department will provide high-quality water at minimum cost with the participation of rural communities.

The national function to mark the launch of this project will be held at Galatha in Udapalatha, under the partonage of Minister Hakeem and State Minister Jayawardena.
